“The peculiarities and idiosyncrasies of cities show you that there are many different ways to live.”

One of ARM’s most experienced and accomplished design architects, Neil is a master at masterplanning. Sketching mostly by hand he calibrates how buildings fit onto a site and the importance of people. His drawings show it: less a building footprint than the spaces between buildings that decide whether a place actually works.

Neil’s instinct has informed some of Australia’s most-used public entertainment precincts: the renewal of Adelaide’s Festival Plaza that uplifted the city, the masterplan that fits the Melbourne Recital Centre and MTC Southbank Theatre together, and the rework that stitched Hamer Hall into Southgate, where a night at the concert can spill straight into dinner by the river. His retail and hospitality expertise was also instrumental on threading Melbourne Central shopping centre into the city around it.
